Ready for Red?

December 15, 2023

From Hailey Bieber’s colour evolution to Whiskey Shades, Berry Tones and Cowboy Coppers, red is certainly this season’s go-to hair colour. This week, we had an exclusive sit down with the Joico Europe team to learn the tricky business of identifying which red tones are best suited to which clients…

Ready for Red

Since Cowboy Copper differs from your super-bright, true coppers, it’s a shade that works particularly well on brunettes. Think of the colour as an aged penny, rather than a brand-new one. Creating this shade is all about adding the right amount of warm brown hues to your formula, this will ensure the final result is more red than orange.

Ready for Red 1

Think of this as the ultimate shade for anyone wanting that seriously healthy-looking finish. This colour is all about embracing warmer tones, from caramel to honey, but whilst it definitely leans towards more of a brown, it still retains a gorgeous red sheen. For clients who want to level up, Whiskey shades also look great mixed in with blonde highlights too.

Ready for Red 2

A gorgeous way to brighten up the dull Winter days is to play with the beautiful berry tones of Cherry and Strawberry. Whilst Strawberry is all about vibrant gloss that wows against warmer skin, Cherry can be a bold, fresh finish or a deep and dramatic burgundy tone that looks amazing on both warm and cooler skin tones.

Ready for Red 3

For clients who love to go all out when it comes to colour, a well-matched shade could be a solid brick tone like Fire Engine Red. However, there are also other more subtle ways to stand out, such as a Cherry Red or velvety Deep Red – think red velvet cake, a blend of warm chocolate with a glossy red finish.
