Tons of Buns | Thomas Hills reveals his hottest festival hair trend

August 19, 2021

The 90’s are always a great sartorial reference for the runways, and this season, hair is no exception, as the space bun trend is set to go stellar.

The beauty of this look is in its simplicity: it’s easy to create for clients going to parties and festivals and can be styled on freshly washed locks, but even better, on lived-in locks that need a touch of TLC. Part hair centrally and pull back into a low ponytail at the nape of the neck. Begin to wrap the length of the hair around the hairband until a bun forms and pin in place with Kirby grips.

This high impact style is also very versatile – you can create slick and sleek buns (as pictured in my Wink collection, left) or create low slung messy buns, this year’s take on the messy top knot, leaving tendrils at the side for some laid-back luxe. This is cool-girl hair at its easiest: super stylish in a nonchalant way and practical for festivals as no mirror, brush or steady hand is required. Advise clients to add adornments or scrunchies, or if they really want to up the style factor for a festival, add a bit of hair oil to their parting and sprinkle with glitter. They’ll be the new season glitterati in no time!
