Say No to Landfill for Black Friday

November 23, 2022

While people all over the country are preparing to ‘shop till’ they drop’ this week in recognition of Black Friday– with many salons also jumping on board with special offers – Green Salon Collective are taking a stand.

In protest against this mass consumerism, Green Salon Collective will not only be refusing to offer any traditional Black Friday Sales, but they will be selling rubbish…

Through selling empty colour tubes for £15 a bag, broken clips for £2.50 and old towels for £10, Green Salon Collective want to illustrate the true extent of the waste that is generated by the hairdressing industry. Every year, endless amounts of chemicals are poured down the drain, plastic product bottles discarded in the oceans and broken hairdryers tossed into landfill. As a result, Green Salon Collective have labelled Black Friday as not a cause for celebration, but an environmental disaster, and they believe the promotion of unnecessary, unsustainable purchases should be stopped.

‘As an industry, we must move towards circular solutions; hairdressers can be the voice of this by reducing, reusing and recycling, as well as educating clients on how to do the same. So, this Black Friday, think twice about what you buy on sale – only purchase what you really need, rather than buying rubbish. For those who just cannot quench that consumerist urge, you can buy actual rubbish from the Green Salon Collective’s website instead…’

All proceeds from the purchase of rubbish will be donated to the ‘Mossy Earth’ rewilding organisation. #BoycottBlackFriday #SplashYaTrash #WasteEmbraced
