Latest information on the reopening of salons and barbershops from the Hair & Barber Council

June 11, 2020

We have a statement from the Deputy Director of Safer Workplaces and Social Distancing Directorate at BEIS (Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy).

He said:

I am writing to confirm our view that:

  1. We do not anticipate hairdressers/salons opening before phase 3, which on the Prime Minister’s road map is around 4 July
  2. Click and collect can be used for these businesses to sell products as long as customers order in advance and do not enter the premises.

We have sought clarification as to whether this statement also refers to mobiles and services across all disciplines, which they confirmed it did.

They also confirmed that retail click and collect is from 15 June but we haven’t received any specific guidelines outside of this.

The Hair and Barber Council is working very closely with other industry bodies in order to get clarification on dates and sensible guidelines produced and mandated by government.

We are part of a taskforce that has fed information and suggested guidelines into government and will be given the opportunity to imminently consult on their drafted guidelines.
