Henkel prepares to support salon’s return to work with critical PPE equipment and training

May 14, 2020

July 4th has suddenly taken on a new connotation and this time, it’s a date that will go down in history as one to remember for the UK’s professional hairdressing sector.

As salon doors are (hopefully) flung wide to welcome back those clients the industry collectively has one goal in sight: to create environments that are safe, clean, flowing, observing social distancing, protecting teams and clients and most importantly for us all are safe places to create hairdressing beauty.” comments Julian Crane, general manager, Henkel Beauty Care UK and Ireland.

Enter Henkel and their Back to Work programme. A third innovative initiative designed to lift the professional hairdressing industry during the Covid-19 pandemic.

This latest initiative is a one stop drive to equip all salon owners who are Henkel customers, regardless of brand affiliation, across the country with all the necessary PPE, hygiene products, training and communication materials to safely reopen.

Back to Work comprises three key areas:

1. PPE

2. Education and guidelines

3. Client communication

Global Purchasing power

As a global multinational, Henkel has put its purchasing power into play on behalf of the hairdressing industry, across the world.

Sourcing quality PPE to add to an already extensive salon tool catalogue, salon owners, who are Henkel customers will be able to order surgical grade face masks (for both clients and stylists), disposable gloves, capes and towels (all completely unbranded), face visors and hand sanitiser alongside any product orders, in order to get salon businesses back on their feet as soon as safely possible.

Pre orders for PPE equipment will be able taken via the Henkel salesforces from the 3rd week of May onwards, with delivery anticipated in the last week of June, for the potential salon opening date of July 4th.

Education and guidelines

As digital education has become part and parcel of hairdressing life, the Henkel PPS educators will be providing online training for full salon teams to communicate the necessary procedures for employees and clients.

Confirming how to limit contact in salon, schedule appointments, create a safe client journey in the salon and implement stringent hygiene and cleaning processes will all be covered in bespoke training for Henkel salons.

All online training will be backed up with an invaluable Henkel manual which covers all bases from checklists, back to work routines and salon hygiene advice so team members have a reference point at all times to help maintain standards long term.

Client communication

It has never been more important for client communication to be clear, careful and concise. Further bespoke in-salon material steers salons through new processes.

Emphasis is placed on managing clients’ expectations and experiences through each and every touchpoint of the client journey from pre to post appointment.

Social media assets, window stickers, reception showcards, client hygiene guides, staff room and back wash posters signpost and emphasise every single part of the process clearly and effectively.

Hattrick from Henkel

Back to Work is hot on the heels of Helpyoursalon.co.uk and the Home Delivery Service. Each clever initiative is designed for the different phases of lockdown, and preparation for opening.

Helpyoursalon.co.uk is an industry wide, unbranded platform any salon can use to sell personalised e-vouchers to their clients.

A two-step registration process and linking a business PayPal creates a bespoke link for salons to promote to clients so they can buy vouchers for themselves, friends or family. The Home Delivery Service is keeping salon clients fully stocked with all their favourite Schwarzkopf Professional and Authentic Beauty Concept products.

Ordered via their salon and delivered direct to the client’s house, it’s proving a valuable way for salons to stay connected and communicating with their clients and for those that are really promoting the service it has been a valuable income stream.

Back to Work is Henkel’s final phase preparation for safety, surety and lasting success and it’s ambition is to support this professional sector in getting back to work, but most importantly working together safely.

Henkel continue to demonstrate their commitment to professional hairdressing, providing salon owners with all the products, resources and education to enable this amazing industry to do what they do best – beautiful hair.
