In the world of haircare, consultations have always been therra cornerstone of a successful salon visit. Clients sit down with their stylist, describe their desired look and place all of their trust in our expertise to bring that vision to life. But is this changing?
No matter how skilled a stylist or how detailed a description, one challenge has always remained constant: It can be hard for clients to truly picture how a new cut, colour or style will look.
In my own chair recently, I’ve been noticing a big increase in clients using AI in their consultations. The rise of AIpowered apps are starting to push hairdressing consultations into a new era – one where clients can actually see their future look before the scissors even touch their hair!
AI consultation apps use advanced image recognition and generative technology to simulate hairstyles, colours and even textures on a client’s own photo or live camera feed. So, instead of relying solely on descriptions, reference pictures or hand gestures, clients can actually preview different options in real time. Want to see how a fringe might frame your face? Wondering whether a short pixie cut will suit your bone structure? AI can now generate highly realistic previews within seconds.
Ultimately, this allows consultations to become more collaborative, as stylist and client can experiment visually before committing. This helps avoid misunderstandings, reduces disappointment and increases client satisfaction – leading to a (hopefully!) increased retention.

Having retail just sit on the shelf gathering dust and not selling is a familiar feeling for many of us. For years, I put off changing my product range as it represented such a large financial investment. Here are my five top tips to help you make that switch a little easier:
✔ Know What You Really Want: Have in mind exactly what factors are important to you for the new brand. For example, we wanted a brand that aligned with our green values, with natural ingredients and sustainable practices.
✖ Don’t Rush Product Testing: It’s important to take time to fully test the products over months. Build up valued feedback from your team and clients on what really does and doesn’t work. Getting this buy-in early will help get you some quick sales.
✔ Investigate Different Price Points: You need to make sure these new products won’t be left on the shelf like the last range may have been – the key is in the price!
✔ Work Closely With Your New Supplier: They can offer great support with things like pricing structures, product knowledge, education and even negotiations with removing your dead stock.
✔ Socials! Socials! Socials! Shout about the benefits of your new product range on your socials, educating your clients about the change and getting them excited.
