According to British Hairdresser of the Year, Cos Sakkas, a fringe can update any hairstyle, something celebrities are very good at doing. “I’m not surprised fringes are so popular at the moment, as they can really transform a look. A fringe will either add another dimension to a short haircut or update a longer hairstyle, they can also create a focal point to the face.”
Daniele de Angelis from TONI&GUY believes this kind of celebrity trend is a great influence for clients. “Celebrities are really playing with their hairstyles right now, but not everyone is brave enough to take the step and cut their hair shorter. The fringe is a great option for introducing a short length; it’s something different and can be strong enough for the change to command attention.”

“While hair is the accessory you never take off, the fringe frames the face and makes it the centre of attention”, says Sharon Malcolm from Sharon Malcolm Hairdressing, Newtownards. “A micro fringe like Zendaya’s at Paris Couture Fashion Week is perfect for those who are open minded to try something a little bit different, whilst still wanting to remain beautiful. It’s a great way to make a statement, but not for the faint hearted! Zendaya’s high neckline and subtle make-up complement it perfectly.”

Akin Konizi from HOB Academy says the fringe is one of the most important parts of a hairstyle and shouldn’t be under-estimated. “Considering it’s the most visible part of the haircut, it’s crucial to get the fringe right. There’s no hiding it and it can make a style look completely different; it can take an everyday style from boring to ravishing. There are so many different styles of fringe to choose from, it becomes part of the wearer’s character. Claudia Winkleman, for example, is lauded for her eye-skimming, glossy fringe, and her hair just wouldn’t be as dynamic without it.”
