The Station Hair and Beauty | The Design Edit

May 07, 2026

Housed in an old railway station, The Station Hair and Beauty is a charming independent salon located in Mistley, Essex.

How would you describe the design of your salon?

As we are a Grade II listed railway station that was built in 1854, our design certainly took a lot of thinking! Overall, The Station Hair and Beauty has been designed to reflect a modern, professional and welcoming space that makes every client feel comfortable and valued. Our salon combines contemporary styling with warm, inviting touches, creating an environment that feels both stylish and relaxing.

Have you chosen a particular colour scheme?

We have carefully chosen a clean, neutral colour palette to create a calm and luxurious atmosphere, while still maintaining a friendly and approachable feel to reflect our local community.

What is the atmosphere like inside of the salon?

The salon’s layout allows our team to work efficiently, while still keeping a relaxed and unhurried atmosphere. Each styling station is thoughtfully positioned to provide clients with their own personal space, ensuring comfort, privacy and a high-quality experience. The lighting throughout the salon has also been selected to support precision hair and beauty work, creating a soft, flattering environment for clients.

How have you embraced sustainability within your design?

As a Davines salon, we have embraced sustainability hugely. We also belong to the Green Salon Collective, so all of our waste is recycled in the most sustainable way possible.

Do you have a dress code for your team?

No, we don’t have a particular dress code. We feel every team member is an individual and should be able to express themselves.
