“I really loved Iris Law’s look at this year’s Met Gala. Pixie cuts will always be one of my favourite haircuts and Iris wore hers incredibly – teamed with flippy ends, a choppy fringe and a wet finish. The style drew attention to her beautiful facial features and complimented her face shape. Paired with a wet finish, this gave the style further allure and looked so chic. After cutting in your pixie, I would always use a heated styling iron to gently bend the longer lengths at the back to achieve flipped ends. I would then mix a gel and serum or cream together and apply this through the hair with a comb to create a wet appearance. Finally, I would finish with a hairspray like the Schwarzkopf Professional Silhouette Super Hold Spray to set the look in place, offering an extra dose of shine to the finished look.” – Suzie McGill, Artistic Director at Rainbow Room International

Kim Kardashian

“I loved the cool, laidback style of Kim K’s hair at this year’s Met Gala. From the front, her hair was very dishevelled with textured beachy waves, but these came together halfway down her back into a thick, loose braid to give off serious romantic vibes. The night also saw the return of Kim’s platinum blonde, looking as clean and icy as ever. To recreate this look, product is key. I would firstly start by prepping the hair with a product like KMS TameFrizz Smoothing Lotion on towel-dried hair before blow-drying, this will work to help avoid any frizz. I would then lightly tousle the hair into waves with a styling iron before using a product like KMS Hair Play Dry Texture Spray to add texture and a ‘messy’ finish to the waves. Once the braid has been created at the back, I would gently pull out some sections to create a more relaxed finish, before finally misting over some more texture spray to hold the look in place all night long.” – Tina Farey, Editorial Director at RUSH

Kylie Jenner, Taraji P

“Buns and chignons were a prominent theme at the Met this year, and I loved all of the different variations the stars sported. Kylie Jenner wore a beautiful sleek chignon with curls left visible and pinned at the back, complete with a pretty pink rose to accentuate the look. We also saw some fantastic braided buns! One of my favourites included Taraji P. Henson, whose braid was rolled into a topknot at the top of her hair. For all buns and chignons, my favourite product is the ALTERNA Caviar Anti-Aging Replenishing Moisture CC Cream, which can be applied through the hair before creating your bun for manageability and smoothness.” – Sabrina Dijkman, ALTERNA Ambassador

Jennifer Lopez

“The Met Gala is always on my must watch list, and last night it certainly did not disappoint!  For me, Jennifer Lopez just oozed every ounce of glamour imaginable. Wearing a fabulous Schiaparelli couture gown, Jennifer kept it very simple with her hair, going for a relaxed top knot to ensure the statement was very much on her dress. The relaxed top knot is a fantastic trend in itself, and one that we see on clients and consumers all the time. To recreate, it’s important to prep the hair with a professional hydration shampoo and conditioner – even though the hair is up, the health is still vital. Next, you want to dry the hair, using your fingers to direct heat into the roots in order to provide that undone feeling. Then, gather hair at the crown and secure it with a hair band to create a high ponytail. Next, backcomb the hair slightly, before wrapping it around the base of the ponytail and securing with bobby pins. Finally, finish the look off with a firm hold hairspray.” – Tracey Ann Smith, ASP Global Ambassador and Midlands Hairdresser of the Year

Kaia Gerber

“I love nothing more than beautiful waves, and I was not disappointed with the gorgeous Kaia Gerber. Sometimes, simple and subtle is the best way to turn heads, and Kaia and her team created the perfect look for me. Opting for an old, Hollywood-inspired blowout, Kaia showcased high volume at the front of the hair, with locks flowing beautifully across her shoulder. To create this look, it’s all about hair health! I’d recommend washing the hair with Jay B Haircare Hydration Shampoo and Conditioner – not only will this nourish the hair, but it will create long-lasting shine too. Once prepped, I’d opt for a deep side-parting, sectioning the hair diagonally from the front to the crown. This will allow you to create a full, voluminous fringe. Using a large barrel brush, work around the hair, lifting the hair up and over the brush to create volume throughout. With the fringe, dry the hair back on itself to create the swooping effect. Finish with a shine spray to add the most luxurious finish.” – Jay Birmingham, Jay B Haircare and Jay Birmingham Hair

“Ultra-long, wavy hair flooded the green carpet this Met! With hair that can only be described as ethereal, Kendall Jenner’s lightly curled extensions cascaded down her back beautifully with hip-height extensions that were fluffy and cloud like. I love using the JOICO KBOND20 treatment to achieve this healthy and hydrated finish, which is also great for extensions, by the way! Kendall’s look felt incredibly on brand for this year’s theme, resembling a fairytale coming to life on the steps of the Met. Another personal favourite of mine was SJP – iconic as always. With that mane of hair extensions combined with a fantastic headpiece, I can only feel sorry for her poor neck by the end of the night! Completely worth it no doubt, the voluminous half-up ponytail was embodying Carrie Bradshaw to the maxmimum.” – Gill Berry, Senior Creative Artist JOICO

“I was obsessed with the wet hair looks at this year’s Met Gala. This trend only ever gets better for me, and Tyla and Rebecca Hall’s looks were just incredible. Tyla’s tousled bob perfectly completed her sand-inspired look, I just wished they played her song ‘Water’ as she walked up the stairs! Similarly, Rebecca’s swept-back, short ‘shower-wet’ look stunned. Being able to create a sleek and glossy finish that lasts and isn’t greasy is certainly a skill, and it’s a personal favourite of mine to create too. I am so ready for the chic and sexy wet looks to be huge this summer!” – Brian Leo McCallum, Owner ROAR Hair & Beauty Salons
