The Best Hair Looks at LFW AW24

March 01, 2024

As I’m sure we all know, February saw the return of London Fashion Week. Alongside some spectacular new fashion trends hitting the catwalks for the autumn/winter season, there was also an abundance of cool, creative and contemporary haircuts and styling to be appreciated.

With that in mind, we caught up with hairstyling expert and Alterna Ambassador, Sabrina Dijkman, to find out her favourite hair looks that graced the runways and which ones she thinks will be trending throughout 2024…

Sleek Ponytails at L Saha

‘Sleek, polished ponytails are here to stay for 2024 and I love the low-key vibe they had at the L Saha Show. Instead of being slicked and straight back off the face, the ponytails were paired with a clean middle parting and worn low at the nape of the neck for a sophisticated yet chic finish.

When creating this kind of look, your styling products are key as you want the hair as smooth and straight as possible, with little to no flyaways. I would always start by washing the hair with a moisturising shampoo and conditioner to give the hair ultimate hydration and a healthy, smooth and shiny finish. I would then follow this up by applying into damp hair the Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Replenishing Moisture CC Cream for extra nourishment, smoothness and shine alongside heat protection, before blow-drying the hair straight and smoothing over with heated styling irons.

Next, I would use a comb to create that precise, clean-looking middle parting and apply some ALTERNA Caviar Anti-Aging Replenishing Moisture Leave-In Smoothing Gelee through the front section of the hair, smoothing this into place with the comb before creating the ponytail and securing into place. This product will help to get rid of any frizz, as well as providing a light hold and high shine which is a must for this look.’

‘Although not a look for every day, finger waves are such a fun style for clients looking for a more unique hairstyle for any special occasions they may have coming up. With this look, it’s key that the hair is super glossy and wet in appearance, therefore your products are again very crucial.

I like to start by misting some water spray through the hair to make it slightly damp, before combing through a gel to give the hair further shine and a more wet appearance. Then, using the comb and my finger, I start to create finger waves, working in small sections to ensure you create these as precisely as possible. Finish by misting through a strong-hold hairspray like the Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Professional Styling High Hold Finishing Spray to set the hair in place and complete the look.’

Sky-High Braided Buns at Rue Agthonis

‘I love a hair up and it was great to see the return of sky-high buns and topknots at the Rue Agthonis show, paired with braiding for a more contemporary finish.

With this kind of look, I would start by misting through some dry shampoo like the Alterna My Hair. My Canvas. Another Day Dry Shampoo to provide volume and grit to create the bun. I would then bring the hair up into a high ponytail, securing it as high as possible with a hair tie, before creating my braid and securing it at the end with an elastic.

Next, gently pull out sections of the braid to give it a thicker and fuller appearance, wrapping it around the base of the ponytail to create the bun. Pin the bun into place a couple of inches before the braid ends, leaving out a small section to create an off-duty model appearance with a unique finish. Finish by misting through Alterna My Hair. My Canvas. City Slay Shielding Hairspray for hold, shine and humidity protection.’
