The 4 Biggest Hair Colour Trends for Spring 2024

March 22, 2024

In the first of an exclusive new column, Suzie McGill, Artistic Director at Rainbow Room International and current British Colour Technician of the Year, looks at the four biggest colour trends you do not want to miss out on this spring…

The 4 Biggest Hair Colour Trends for Spring 2024

1. Opulent Hues

For spring 2024, we will be seeing a move from subtle, pastel shades, to richer, deeper and more opulent hues. I predict we will see lots of vivid cherry reds and liquid gold shades becoming on trend – colours that look expensive and give the hair an extreme lustre. These shades were seen all over the spring/summer runways and are perfect for clients who want a high-fashion look. Of course, these vibrant shades will require a high level of upkeep at home. It’s important to encourage clients to use colour maintenance products – shampoos, conditioners, masks, treatments and heat protection – to ensure their colour is long-lasting between appointments.

2. Peach Fuzz and Pastels

For those clients who prefer more of a pastel hue, there will definitely be some pastels sticking around in the spotlight this spring. This includes, of course, the Pantone Colour of the Year, Peach Fuzz. I love this warm, soft shade, particularly as it’s universally flattering and works well on most hair types and skin tones. If peach isn’t the client’s thing, pale pastel pink hues with golden undertones are another beautiful choice. Pinks and lavenders are always popular at this time of year too, and this spring I predict we will not only see blonde haired clients looking to incorporate these shades into their look, but also darker haired clients looking to add more dimension to their hair colour.

3. Statement Panels

For those looking for a more statement hair colour, blues and purples will be a popular choice this season, particularly when paired with a darker base hue to add a touch of fun to the hair. I love to panel these colours through a section of the hair, whether it be through the fringe to add a vivid pop at the front of the face or throughout the hair for those looking to be more adventurous with their colour.

4. Neons

2024 is the return of neon – think acid greens, neon pinks and Gen Z yellows. Again, these are great for being panelled through the hair and for those looking to really stand out, but they can be worn all over the hair too. Acid greens look great when paired with super short cuts (including buzz cuts!) and sunshine-like yellow hues look incredible on clients with bobs looking to really show off their personality. Of course, these shades can be worn all over the hair, but they also look great as an ombre paired with a natural or lightened root for a fun and contemporary take on the trend.
