Taylor Borthwick on Pink Gin, Peshwari Naan and the Pro Hair Awards

May 01, 2026

What’s the reason you fell in love with hairdressing?

I’ve always loved how hair can instantly change how someone feels about themselves, but the real turning point was discovering the hair community.

Attending the International Hairdressing Awards in Lisbon in 2024 opened my eyes to how big, creative and exciting this industry really is.

What’s the most treasured item in your kitbag?

My kitbag is chaos, but in the best way! It’s full of brushes, tools and the occasional reel of gardening wire. My most treasured items are my long-tailed YS Park pin comb and backcombing brush – they never let me down.

What’s the most memorable moment in your career so far?

Definitely hearing my name called out as the 2025 Professional Young Talent of the Year at the Pro Hair Awards. I genuinely didn’t see it coming! It was one of those pinch-me moments that made me realise my little journey was actually becoming something big.

What’s your go-to hair product right now?

This is an easy one! You won’t find me doing a client’s hair without using Revlon Professionals’ UniqOne. It’s my go-to every time.

What’s your favourite look you have created?

My favourite look was back in October on the Academy Stage at Salon International. I created a fun look using gardening wire to make an edgy plait that could be transformed in salon.

What’s the last thing you bought?

A new BaBylissPRO hairdryer. The December rush completely killed my last one!

What’s your top binge-watch recommendation?

The Good Doctor on Netflix. It’s an easy watch, but I love how it highlights the real challenges adults with autism face in the workplace and everyday life.

What’s your go-to takeaway order?

It has to be an Indian – South Indian Garlic Chicken with a Peshwari Naan. Nothing beats it!

What’s your go-to karaoke song?

I’m not really a karaoke kind of gal, but I’m never far from the dancefloor – especially when Summer of ‘69 is playing! You’ll hear me screeching along with my friends, but we like to change the lyrics to ‘Summer of 629’ as this is my stock car racing number and it holds hundreds of amazing memories!

What’s your drink of choice at the bar?

You’ll most likely find me standing with a pink gin and tonic in hand.
