Popular Hair Colour Trends for 2024

January 26, 2024

Will Barbie blonde remain popular this year? Or will we see a new rise in cherry reds or honey butter blondes? Laura Elliott, Head of Education at Neäl & Wølf, offers her trend predictions on the four reigning hair colours of 2024.

Gemini Hair:

With over 1.1 million views on TikTok, Gemini Hair is going to be a huge hit this year. Aptly named after the ‘twin’ star sign, this look is all about two-toned blocked colours. Nicki Minaj is one celebrity that particularly loves this trend, having experimented with multiple colour variations. The benefit and appeal of this look is its flexibility – it can be as high or low maintenance as anyone wants it to be. Gemini Hair can be colour matched to natural roots, a bold vibrant colour or natural tones; it is truly interchangeable.

Honey Butter Blonde:

This hair looks just as delicious as it sounds! Honey butter blonde is bright, playful, buttery, rich and creamy, packed full of gorgeous blonde tones. Whilst there is a new way to be blonde every year, this look is instead going back to the traditional colour many of you are familiar with. The shade is all about using warm and neutral tones to create a rich, natural look, before layering with caramel tones to bring out the honey butter colour. This modern take on the blonde trend has been famously worn by celebrities such as Taylor Swift and, more recently, Sabrina Carpenter.

Cherry Cola Red:

With Cowboy Copper having had its moment in the spotlight in 2023, it’s no wonder another shade of red is paving its way to the top. Cherry Cola Red is a hit no matter how you wear it, with its deep tones complimenting any complexion. Dua Lipa has resurrected the Y2K hair colour in her comeback era, and 2024 will see it through. With this look, it’s particularly crucial to keep the hair healthy with a hydrating mask and shampoo to prevent colour fade.

Expensive Colour:

Contrary to the name, this hairstyle is a money-conscious trend. Having been recently seen on celebs such as Hailey Bieber and Sofia Richie, the Expensive Colour trend is certainly on a comeback. Matched to the natural root and woven into a dimensional range of lowlights to create a darkening effect, this look offers the illusion of a really expensive cut and colour. The final step – a shine-enhacing gloss applied over the top – is key to this style. Plus, due to the match of the natural root, this hairstyle can be left for months at a time, evolving into a beautiful balayage.
