“This collection is a nod to the past punk scene in Belfast, when the country was falling apart during the troubles. The punk subculture in Northern Ireland created a common ground for young people, giving them a chance to take back control of their own lives in ways that often subverted the conventional codes of society. This culture gave young people the empowerment to express themselves through punk fashion, ultimately leading to adventurous and fearless hairstyles.
Elevating this further, I put my own futuristic twists on the hairstyles by adding bold and bright stand-out colours. Interestingly, if someone in the punk scene added a unique colour placement to a specific part of their hairstyle, it symbolised that they were in a relationship – I wanted to highlight this fact through my use of colour in the collection. The inspirations behind my hairstyles came from buildings and landmarks in my beautiful city of Belfast. I added strong structure, shape and movement to the haircuts to make the colour pop.”
