L’Oréal Colour Trophy 2023: Spotlight Your Talent

February 02, 2023

Welcoming ALL hairdressers, championing professional excellence, and celebrating hair artistry, the 2023 L’Oréal Colour Trophy marks not only 67 years of this iconic event, but an exciting evolution in the journey of the longest running live hairdressing competition in the world.

With a new social-first category launching this year, exciting new prizes, and more opportunities than ever to compete live at the Grand Final; this year will be like no other. Entrants, if successful, will go straight into competing live at two of the biggest nights in the industry’s calendar – the UK and Ireland Grand Finals.

Since its inception in 1954, the L’Oréal Colour Trophy has continued to spotlight the talent of our industry. Ever evolving, the competition now welcomes thousands of competitors and guests from across the UK and Ireland every year.

In 2023, the competition’s mission is simple: to embark on a quest to uncover talent from all corners of the UK and Ireland. For the first time in its long-standing history, the new L’Oréal Colour Trophy Moving Image Award category is open to entrants working in a salon, or as an independent stylist.

The competition invites entrants across ALL categories to create a colour look on a model of any gender identity with any hair type, with the Afro Award specialising in a hair type texture between 3C and 4C.

With 6 categories to choose from in the UK and 4 categories to choose from in Ireland, there are unique opportunities to spotlight your talent this year.

  • L’Oréal Colour Trophy Award: A total look award that requires entrants to create a colour look on a model of any gender identity with any hair type.
  • L’Oréal Colour Trophy STAR Award: For 16–25-year-olds, a before and after photo is required to enter and STAR entrants will be interviewed on their work by the judges should they be successful in reaching the Grand Final stage.
  • L’Oréal Colour Trophy Afro Award (UK only): A total look award that requires entrants to create a colour look on a model of any gender identity with a hair type texture between 3C and 4C.
  • L’Oréal Colour Specialist Award (UK only): For those hair colour aficionados who have passed the 15-day L’Oréal Colour Specialist Diploma. Entrants must create a colour look on a model of any identity with any hair type.
