For many clients, deciding to switch up their hair colour or taking the leap to colour their hair for the first time can feel daunting. A challenge I often see in the salon is clients arriving inspired by social media trends and images, yet often feeling unsure, overwhelmed or hesitant about committing to a new look.
As we head further into the cold, winter months, I wanted to come up with a fun and unique way to help alleviate this issue for clients and to inspire them for their next colour appointment. This is where my new colour consultation newspaper steps in…
Styled like a fashion insert, the newspaper doubles as a mini preconsultation, highlighting six gorgeous winter trends for the upcoming season: Hyper-Pigment Hues, Ecru Bronde, Aspect Lights, Satin-Blonde, Greige and Onyx Brown. Each trend comes with a concise, mood-led guide which explains: Who the colour suits, what to ask for in the salon and how to look after it.
As well as providing a clear trend for the client to have recreated in the salon, the newspaper also helps them to see how a trend could work for them personally – they can envision the colour on themselves, mix and match inspiration and feel excited about trying something new!
While digital mood boards and social media are both brilliant, a physical piece in the client’s hands changes the dynamic. It anchors the conversation during consultation and feels curated rather than endless scrolling. At Haug London Haus, we pride ourselves on our bespoke colour work, and this newspaper has become a key talking point in the salon.
“Cloud Dancer is a beautiful, soft, vanilla-whipped, fluffy-esque shade of white. This is a perfect choice for blondes who prefer a lighter, creamier, slightly ashy hue and don’t like their blonde to be too warm or golden tones. For those who like to stand out from the crowd, I love to pair a short, quirky, pixie cut with a clean-toned, ice-white shade to really make a statement” – Suzie McGill, Artisitc Director at Rainbow Room International
“This shade will give us colourists a blank canvas to experiment with minimalism, partnering different variations of depth, dimension and tones to create our own interpretation of this colour trend for clients in the salon.” – Seung Ki Baek, Creative Colour Expert at Rush Hair
“Cloud Dancer is my kind of shade – calm, classy and confident without shouting for attention. It’s minimalist, but still stands out. It feels clean, modern and considered, which I love. For colourists, this kind of neutral is gold. Its give you a clean canvas to build anything on and every palette looks better sitting next to it.” – Michelle Summers Davies, Michelle Davies Hair, Pembrokeshire
