Sleeked Hair with Prominent Middle Partings

This was a key look at the Saint Laurent show, and really sets the tone for men’s hair as we quickly head further into 2023. These sleek, well-groomed hairstyles will be incredibly popular for male clients this year in the salon. Gone are the days of textured, messy and ‘just off the beach’ hair; now we will start to see men using more pomades, waxes and gels to sleek the hair back and create a more polished finish. I love to use a tailcomb to help create that deep middle parting, as well as other products to sleek the hair to the sides – this ensures there are little to no flyaways. A light mist of hairspray can also be used on the hair for added shine and hold.
Soft and Straight with an ‘Unstyled’ Finish

There were a variety of hair looks shown at this year’s Issey Miyake show, however, for me, there was one style in particular that kept making a reappearance – soft and straight hair with an almost ‘unstyled’ finish, as though no products have been used at all. For these kinds of styles, keeping hair in great condition is key to allowing the style to look its very best. I also think we will see many male clients going back to styling their hair at home with heated styling irons, specifically to achieve a straighter, smoother finish. When it comes to products for this look, I would only use a small amount (about a pump) of serum, smoothing it over the finished style to give the hair an extra dose of moisture and keep the frizz at bay.
The Buzz Cut

A key men’s hair look on this year’s Givenchy show – and a fantastic choice for those clients who may want to ‘reset’ their hair for the New Year – the Buzz Cut. In the last few years, the Buzz Cut trend has become increasingly popular, so I think this cut will continue to soar for 2023. It’s great for men who don’t want a cut that’s high maintenance; they only need to visit their men’s hairdresser/barber to ensure the length is kept maintained. It also gives off serious ‘cool guy’ and edgy vibes.
