Brits Predicted to Spend More than £3.1bn on Hair and Beauty Appointments this Festive Season

December 08, 2022

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and Brits will certainly be looking their best. Despite the current cost of living crisis, a new study has revealed that UK consumers plan to spend a combined £3.1 billion on hair and beauty appointments during this year’s festive season.

Conducted in October 2022, the research was compiled by one of the UK’s largest independent suppliers to hair and beauty professionals, Capital Hair and Beauty. With almost half (44%) intending to spend the same amount on in-salon treatments that they have in previous years – and a further quarter (23%) looking to spend even more – the findings suggest that Brits have no intention of cutting back on their professional beauty routines this Christmas, in spite of the rising cost of living.

On average, the study has calculated that UK consumers will be budgeting £58.80 each for their festive hair and beauty appointments. However, a further 2.1 million Brits are even prepared to spend upwards of £200 on their Christmas bookings.

Following two Christmases of disrupted events and festive parties due to the pandemic, many Brits are certainly keen to make an entrance this year. According to the survey, one in eight women (12%) – and one in ten men (10%) – will book to have their hair styled for a specific festive event. When it comes to different treatments, almost half of UK adults (47%) will be opting for a wash, cut and blow dry, while just over a third (36%) will be paying for a trim.

Samantha Shamplina-Burkwood, Marketing Manager at Capital Hair and Beauty, comments on the findings: “It’s great to see that as we approach the Christmas season, we are still prioritising looking and feeling our best through booking-in with our favourite hair and beauty professionals.”
