Unable to host a big fundraising event, Barrie had to get creative to secure some much-needed cash for his beloved furry friends at Leicester Animal Aid. Two online events ensured he could raise funds this year in a socially distanced way.
The virtual ‘Big Night in at the Bingo with B & Lea’, which raised around £1,000 in a single hour, and online home workouts with personal trainer Dan Morris helped to push the total amount raised so far up to £10,000.
On becoming an ambassador for Leicester Animal Aid in 2018, Barrie launched his Making A Difference campaign for the charity. Each and every single penny raised goes towards the upkeep, care and re-homing costs involved to look after the cats and dogs who have had such a bad rap in life so far.
Barrie said “It’s been a tough, tough year for everyone but supporters in Leicestershire (and beyond) have helped to ensure that the animals at LAA continue to receive the things they need. Leicestershire has been amazing, as ever, and really supported us, it really must be the biggest hearted county in Britain.
“A huge local effort shows what can be done when we work together. Thank you to Leicester from the animals of LAA.”
Barrie Stephen has been an ambassador for Leicester Animal Aid since September 2018 and has already staged a number of successful fundraising events on the charity’s behalf. Leicester Animal Aid does not receive any central funding and so is totally dependent on donations from the public. They rehome over 400 dogs and cats each year.
