A tribute to Sir David Amess

October 21, 2021

As Vice-Chair of The Hairdressing, Barbering and Cosmetology APPG, Sir David was an ardent supporter of the work of this group and a staunch believer in the regulation of our sector.

As we all now know, Sir David died after he was stabbed during a constituency surgery he was holding in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, on Friday. Not only was he an extremely well liked and experienced parliamentarian for over four decades, but Sir David was the nicest of men and firmly believed in the many causes he challenged and in the compassion of mankind.

This tragic and completely senseless death whilst terrible for us all to hear, is so very shattering for his wife and family to whom our hearts and thoughts go out to.

In a statement, his wife and children said: ‘Strong and courageous is an appropriate way to describe David, he was a patriot and a man of peace’.

It will be many months before we know why he was targeted and why this kind and caring man’s life was taken from him and his family so wickedly.

On behalf of us all at The Hair and Barber Council, our committees, and members and indeed the hair, barber, and beauty industry, rest in peace Sir David and thank you for the committed and amazing service you gave to our country, your constituency and to our sectors All Party Parliamentary Group, you will never be forgotten
