5 Hair Hacks for Spring

February 23, 2024

Spring is the perfect season to give the hair a serious health boost. We’re finally over the harsh winter months, and the hair needs some revitalising. The cold air has left a lot of clients with a dry scalp, so now is the time to ditch the winter damage and start preparing the hair for the warmer months ahead. We caught up with top editorial stylist and founder of the Neil Moodie Studio, Neil Moodie, to find out how you can help your clients spring into action this coming season…

Trim to win:

This is really key, but it’s something a surprising amount of people forget about. One of the best things your clients can do right now is book themselves in for a quick trim, getting rid of any split ends and damage caused by winter. Remember, split ends cannot be repaired, only disguised by products. The longer they are left, the more split the hair will become, meaning more will need to be cut off in order to return the hair back to full health.

Soothe and revitalise:

Adding a deep conditioning treatment will help nourish the hair into the best shape for summer. A great way to do this is via a steam treatment to hydrate the hair and scalp, replenishing moisture that may have been lost due to the dry winter air. Our luxury Steam Treatment, which takes 30 minutes, allows for deep penetration of conditioning treatments, resulting in softer, smoother hair and a healthier scalp. The steam also promotes blood circulation to the scalp, which can contribute to healthier hair growth and scalp health. By opening the hair follicles and pores, the steam helps to remove impurities and build-up from styling products used during winter. Apart from this, it’s also a really enjoyable relaxing experience!

De-frizz for delicious locks:

The increase in humidity and the added moisture that comes with spring can cause the hair to frizz. To combat this, a keratin treatment will help smooth the hair by adding deep moisture. It can also help reduce split ends by temporarily bonding them back together. Coating the hair and creating a protective layer, keratin treatments make hair easier to style and manage, saving time and effort in spring styling routines. They also offer relatively long-lasting frizz control, making them ideal for the transitional weather conditions of spring. The treatment helps to restore the protein lost in the hair, contributing to healthier, more nourished strands.

Make the most of a Blow-Dry:

Aside from the added humidity, spring is a pretty good time for hair. Gone are the harsh challenges of winter, with its cold bite, wind and rain, plus the overly hot weather has not quite hit yet – why not use the opportunity to encourage clients to treat themselves with a blow-dry. Aside from it being a treat, a high-quality blow-dry will also last for a good few days, during which time there is no need for shampooing or heat tools, so it’s a nice rest for the hair too.

Sunshine Rays:

We’re not at the height of it yet, but we should (hopefully!) start experiencing a little more sunlight soon, which means we’ll be starting to spend more time outside. It’s never too early to protect the hair from UV rays, particularly if a client has colour on their hair. For this, I recommend a colour mask or treatment. A specific product I like is the Pureology Colour Fanatic multi-tasking spray – it uses a UV Filter to fight colour-depleting environmental effects while helping to ensure lasting shine.
