“The Oscars always bring a real array of hairstyling and this year was no different. Beautiful sleek, precise finishes seen on Cara Delevigne and Lady Gaga, undone texture like Ana De Armas, and then intricate updos seen on the beautiful Florence Pugh were some of my favourites. The Oscars really show the skills of the teams delivering the glamour and the personalities of the talent they are working on. The guys looked amazing too this year. Understated and cool, but still no one’s cooler than what Austin Butler is doing right now! Austin, who portrayed Elvis, has this effortlessly cool look about him, but a sort of grungy, almost rockabilly vibe with his hair, and he pushed it as well with his outfit. Really love his total look.”– Luke Benson, Luke Benson Hair, stylist to Billie Eilish, Mae Muller, Roman Kemp, Tom Grennan @lukebensonhair

“I’m really crushing on Cate Blanchett’s updo, it looks effortlessly undone yet stunning, and perfect for her face shape and outfit. It’s very soft, elegant and off the face styles are becoming more popular, for a long time we have seen lots of hair around the face but taking it away can be really striking as we can see with Cate! This echoes the trend for short hair that we’re seeing at the moment, and this is an example of a hair up that gives the short hair vibe on longer hair without cutting it.” – Cally Borg, owner, Cally Borg Hair @thelifestylehairstylist

“On the whole we saw soft glamorous waves and curls, with hair ups kept simple and chic, but the stand out style for me that I really love is Danai Gurira’s hair up, about which she told Vogue, “This is my African self coming out here, you know, a tribute to the women who carry amazingly things on their heads with an astounding poise at all times.” I’m sure the stylist behind it Larry Sims would have loved creating this at the same time as having to ensure it was secure and stable! I created something similar for a shoot and I know how stressful that can be… It’s a stunning statement look to send onto the champagne carpet.”– Tina Hollis, The Lonely Boss Lady, owner T2 Hair & Beauty @tinahollismce
