Finding Utopia

The 35th Alternative Hair Show takes place at the Royal Albert Hall, London.

This year’s Alternative Hair Show marked a milestone for founder Tony Rizzo. On its 35th anniversary he remembered his son, and his personal mission to find a cure for Leukaemia. He also remembered the enormous celebration of artistry and dedication of hairdressers that is brought together each year on stage at the stunning Royal Albert Hall.

This year was no different, and with the keyword of Utopia, each of the Alternative Hair Artistic Teams pushed the boundaries and showed their interpretations of the theme.

The evening began with the International Visionary Award, presented by Anthony Mascolo with Tony Rizzo, to entrants in the categories of Cut & Colour, Men’s and Avante Garde. Each finalist presented one model in a colourful and impressive show, and the winners were Lucian Busioe (Cut & Colour), Chris O’Riordan (Men’s) and Jose Garcia Benitez (Avant Garde).

Throughout the rest of the evening the audience were enchanted by shows by artistic teams from across the globe. The second half opened with the presentation of the AIPP International Awards for which the Legends Award was presented to Patrick Cameron, Sanrizz received the Best Commercial Award, Mark Leeson received the Best Photo Award, Amparo Carratala received the Best Avant Garde Award, Candice McKay won the Best Video Award and Jason Hall took the award for Best Men’s.

A wonderful evening and a huge success in fundraising for children’s Leukaemia, the teams parading on stage for the finale before Blue Tobin, the young boy who has been on stage each year for the last five throughout his fight against cancer, presented the cheque for £280,626 raised by the night!
